The New Jersey Lead Remediation and Abatement Program (LRAP) would like to share information about lead exposure to our community. Lead is highly toxic, especially for young children, and can lead to severe and irreversible health issues.
The LRAP is designed to address the serious health risks associated with lead-based paint in homes built before 1978. Lead-based paint hazards can be found in older properties, and children are at risk of exposure through lead paint chips or inhaling lead dust in and around their homes.
Key aspects of the program include:
- Free lead inspection for residential properties with one to four units built prior to 1978.
- Remediation services such as replacing windows, doors, and baseboards, and addressing peeling or chipping paint.
To be eligible for the program:
- The property must be free from structural issues.
- The household gross income must not exceed 80% of the area median income.
- The program is open to both tenants and landlords, provided the occupants meet the income eligibility.
