ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE BOROUGH OF RIVERTON AMENDING CHAPTER 26 ENTITLED “POLICE DEPARTMENT” SUB-CHAPTER ARTICLE VIII ENTITLED “GENERAL PROVISION” IN ORDER TO ADD NEW SECTION 26-30 ADDRESSING CONTRACTS WITH PRIVATE EMPLOYERS OR PUBLIC ENTITIES

 

PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that the aforementioned Ordinance was introduced and passed upon first reading, by title only, at a meeting of the Riverton Governing Body, in the County of Burlington, State of New Jersey, held on January 21, 2026 and the same Ordinance was duly noticed.

 

Further, the same Ordinance was adopted after a second reading by title only, after a public hearing during a meeting of the Riverton Governing Body to be held on February 18, 2026 commencing at 6:30 pm, prevailing time.

 

Any member of the general public who is interested can view a full copy of the Ordinances from the Office of the Borough Clerk of Riverton.

 

EXPLANATORY STATEMENT

This ordinance establishes formal requirements for private employers and other public entities seeking to hire Borough of Riverton police officers for extra‑duty assignments. It creates a new section of the Borough Code outlining mandatory contracts, advance deposits, minimum payment standards, cancellation rules, and billing procedures. The ordinance also authorizes administrative fees, equipment fees, and enforcement measures for nonpayment, while allowing the Chief of Police limited discretion to waive deposit requirements for public entities. Overall, it standardizes and regulates extra‑duty employment to ensure consistent terms, proper payment, and protection of Borough resources.
