Dear Residents:

The recent Facebook posting on the River Town’s page regarding the Borough of Riverton Affordable Housing Plan is false and misleading. Please make note that the Facebook page which I am referring to is not an official site of the Borough and not at all affiliated with the Borough.

Concerning the Housing Plan, under the Mt. Laurel decision every town in New Jersey has a legal obligation to simply make the production of affordable housing possible. The Borough’s proposed plan provides this opportunity in several affordable housing overlay zones in the Borough. The plan has unit limits per site and architectural standards are being developed to ensure anything that MIGHT be built fits in the historic nature of the Borough. To be clear, a “massive 89-unit structure designed to accommodate low income housing” is NOT in the plan.

Please take notice that a “Fairness Hearing” will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019, beginning at 2:00 P.M., before the Honorable Ronald E. Bookbinder, A.J.S.C., Superior County of New Jersey, Law Division, at the Burlington County Superior Court Complex, 7th Floor, 49 Rancocas Road, Mt. Holly, New Jersey 08060. The entire plan will be explained at the hearing. In addition, the plan will be discussed at a joint Borough Council and Planning Board meeting at a date to be determined after the Fairness Hearing.

Suzanne Cairns Wells, Mayor
